Rikke K. Mortensen

This site will showcase my previous work from my previous workplaces. I can't show in detail, as all projects are in private Git repositories, but I will go into as much detail as I can. This site should be seen as an addition to my CV.

I now seek a new role as user experience designer or business analyst. I've worked with frontend development since graduating, but I want to use the skills I learned during my bachelor degree in technoanthropology. This site highlights the UX work I have contributed with during my career.

Topdanmark Forsikring A/S

I started as a studenthelper at Topdanmark Forsikring A/S (Now if forsikring) in 2015. Here I was handed small isolated coding tasks in the beginning. One day I went to a claimhandler, to experience their day. While the claimhandler talked to customers, I noticed that the claimhandler looked up insurance terms multiple times. The terms were in paper format, placed in a stack of 30 folders on each desk. That gave me an idea to digitalize insurance terms. I sketched out a wireframe of a web application and my manager believed in the idea, so I continued. I did iterations of wireframes, talking to the claimhandlers and watching them work. One thing is what they say - but is that actually what they want? I determined a goal, that the web application should not limit their work. When the MVP was ready, a team was gathered to build the web application TopVilkår. In the web application, the claimhandler could highlight and draw on the text, to make notes to themselves. But they could also switch to "customer mode", to highlight text and send it to customers, if someone needed an explanation. The web application was released to all claimhandlers and as far as I know, is still being used.

TopVilkår

After graduating university, I started working full time at Topdanmark. In the role as a frontend developer, I joined a team creating a new system for workers' compensation. The project started when I did and the system had to be designed from scratch. An external UX designer joined the project and I worked in close cooperation with her, the project manager and the tester to design the system. I learned a lot working with a dedicated UX designer. We did design iterations, talked to users and created design workshops. The final system was very user friendly and simplified for a complex area within insurance, where there are many rules and advanced calculations.

Danmarks Statistik

I started at Danmarks Statistik in October 2020. I joined a team that was starting to make a modification of an old internal system. There was no UX designer. No wireframes. The new system was supposed to look like the old one, but the users hadn't been asked. I was hired as a software developer, but started creating wireframes for this new system and talked to the users. Meanwhile I presented the need for UX designers to management and then I joined the hiring committee afterwards. Two UX'ers joined Danmarks Statistik in 2021 and the connection to the UX'ers from the department of communication was strengthened. I was the lead developer for creating the scroll story for "Gennemsnitsdanskeren", which is one of the most visited pages on www.dst.dk.

Gennemsnitsdanskeren

In October 2022, I passed the exam for the Professional Scrum Master 1 certificate.

Medtrace Pharma A/S

Medtrace

I started as a frontend developer at Medtrace in April 2023. I contributed with bug fixes in the beginning and small design talks with the UX designer. Later I got to create the area of automated tests using Playwright. I created structure in the list of system requirements and wrote the code for the automated tests. I created bug reports for the bugs I found along the way. I want to highlight a sprint, where our UX designer was on paternity leave and we had to design a new module. I took on the work to design it and created new wireframes with the new functionality with respect for the existing system design.

Education

Technoanthropology from Aalborg University, Copenhagen.

The study of how humans interact with technology. I learned anthropology methods within interview skills, observation and iterative design process. As elective courses I chose applied statistics, big data, introduction to programming (with the class of Medialogy) and software engineering 1 at DTU. For my bachelor project, I analyzed how the claimhandlers practice would change going from using insurance terms on paper, to using TopVilkår.

Medialogy from Aalborg University, Copenhagen.

Creating computer games/experiences to help people. Programming solutions (mostly Unity, C#) to design, create and evaluate interactive applications. Courses in programming, machine learning, computer graphics and computer physics. For my master thesis, I developed a virtual reality application for meditation. I measured brainwaves to evaluate the effect.
